Lijiang city has invested 5.25 billion yuan ($823 million) in education in the last five years and its investment in education reached 1.43 billion yuan in 2011.
Li Jinliang, director of Lijiang Education Bureau, said that an addition ten billion yuan was invested in adjusting the urban school distribution in Lijiang last year. Lijiang is also taking a leading role in constructing steelwork school buildings.
In a bid to solve the problem of local students' difficulties in attending school, Lijiang city will build new schools apart from the adjustment of school distribution in the city. Policies and regulations on improving education quality for the city have also been worked out.
Li said Lijiang attaches equal importance to education as it does to tourism. The city gives priority to education in terms of development planning, financial investment, public resources and human resources.
