Lijiang becomes National Garden City

The Commendation Conference for Building a National Garden City was held in Lijiang on Feb 28, 2012. Leaders of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development announced the decision at the conference. So far, Lijiang has become the third National Garden City in Yunnan province after Kunming city and Yuxi city.

Lijiang has been working on its ecological plan for a National Garden City since 2008. The city government chose to plant various styles of flowers and trees with local characteristics. The total grass land in Lijiang has covered an area of 720 hectares with a 37.3 % greening rate. The green areas have covered an area of 765 hectares with 69.7% of greenery coverage. The total garden green areas have covered 396-hectares.
