Five cultural items in Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, were recently included on a list of municipal-level intangible cultural heritage items.

The items include a manual cotton fluffing technique, traditional Chinese medicine of the Gus, a Xiangshan-style exercise known as “stone lock”, Wu-style songs, and a local chrysanthemum winemaking technique.

Officials said that the government of Zhangjiagang has always attached great importance to the protection of its local intangible cultural heritage items.

The city has hosted various cultural events, improved its cultural facilities, and arranged for research activities to promote the integration of traditional culture and modern life.

Zhangjiagang currently has 87 intangible cultural heritage items, including four at the national level, 11 at the provincial level, and 20 at the municipal level.
