Around 60 representatives from international commerce associations, consulates in Shanghai and foreign executives visited Zhangjiagang, eastern China's Jiangsu province on June 26 to attend a business summit.

Shen Guofang, Party secretary of Zhangjiagang, gave speech to the conference promoting the city's healthy investment environment.

"Zhangjiagang is an port city along the Yangtze River which enjoys regional and resource advantages," Shen said.

The city is ramping up its efforts to develop into an innovation city and will welcome more foreign companies to open startups here.

Pan Guoqiang, mayor of Zhangjiagang, said the city will pay more attention to opening up and offer a favorable environment for investors.

After the meeting, guests also visited Jiangnan Agriculture Park, Yonglian town, Zhangjiagang port and Zhangjiagang Lvy League School to get closer to local culture and urban lives.

Pablo Agustin Obrego, consul general of Argentina in Shanghai, said that Zhangjiagang, located in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, is a very important city in the Yangtze River Delta region.

"The city pays a great deal of attention to environment protection and local education. I will promote Zhangjiagang to Argentine companies," he said.

Officials said Zhangjiagang, a port city with a history of more than 8,000 years, enjoys a rich culture and has deep natural resources. It is home to 56 Fortunel 500 companies and nearly 200 European and American companies.

As an important port city, Zhangjiagang has opened more than 20 international routes and traded with more than 300 ports in more than 60 countries.
