Zhangjiagang steel producer, Shagang Group, has ranked sixth in the world for total crude steel production, according to a report by the World Steel Association.

According to the annual industrial report "World Steel in Figures 2016", Shagang Group produced 35 million tons of crude steel in 2015.

The report provides a comprehensive overview of steel industry activities, including production, steel usage and global trade flow indicators. In 2015, world crude steel production was registered at 1,621 million tons, down by 2.9 percent compared to 2014. China accounted for 44.8 percent of the global market for steel (by volume), compared to 45.9 percent in 2014.

Shagang Group is the largest private metallurgical enterprise in China. In 2015, the company managed to maintain stable development and made it on to the list of Fortune 500 companies for the seventh consecutive year, ranking 274, up 34 places from 2014.
