Discover Zhangjiagang Trip

From May 28 to 31, 2014, China Daily in conjunction with the Publicity Department of CPC Committee of Zhangjiagang organized a trip of the city known for its long and rich history.

Fifteen journalists and editors from eight Asian countries including South Korea, Nepal, and Burma joined in the four-day media junket.

Their trip ranged from a visit to the port and bonded area to the classical Changchunyuan Storytelling House and the old village of Tianzhuang.

Zhangjiagang is a port on Yangtze River under the administration of Suzhou, Jiangsu province. It has population of around 1.25 million.

A Chinese monk named Jianzhen is said to have departed from the port of Huangsipu in Zhangjiagang to spread Buddhism to Japan in 753.

About a one and half hour drive from Shanghai, parts of Zhangjiagang have a history dating back 8,000 years.
