A volunteer project providing instructions for raising babies for families with babies between 0-3 kicked off in Zhangjiagang of Jiangsu province on February 22, 2014.

The service is provided at the Zhangjiagang Women and Children Health Center and at public kindergartens.

The project began with a lecture on scientific infant-feeding, which aims to enable new parents to learn the skills and methods to feed infants between 0-6 months scientifically.

Deng Hongyan, director of the health department of the center, said parents may not know much about how and when they should feed their infants.

“There will be problems like feeding babies too much or too little,” said Deng.

The training will be held in the city five times in April, June, July, August and October.

Statistics show that about 13,000 infants are born in Zhangjiagang every year. The first three years are important and the best time for psychological improvement.

However, many parents neglect the period due to lack of scientific knowledge, which leads to problems such as asocial personality, obesity and malnutrition.
