Xuyi’s government held a “grand evening gala,” a “Tianquan Lake dragon boat race,” an “SUV demonstration match,” a “traditional folk wedding on the water,” a “1000 people crayfish feast” and other activities in the second ten days of July 2000.

The 1st International Crayfish Festival of China (2001)

The 1st International Crayfish Festival of China was jointly organized by Xuyi’s government and Yangzi Evening News Agency in Xuyi in July 2001.

In this period, a large art show on the mountainous square, a “1000-people crayfish feast,” a “traditional folk wedding on the water,” a “Tieshansi student summer camp,” a “Dalian and Xuyi girl ranger performance,” an “exhibition of the photos of Ming emperors’ tombs in the Ming Ancestors’ Mausoleum” and other activities were held.

The 2nd International Crayfish Festival of China (2002)

The 2nd International Crayfish Festival of China was held simultaneously in Xuyi, Nanjing and Shanghai from June 8 to 12, 2002.

This crayfish festival proceeded from the exploration of history and culture and the roots of the culture in the Ming Dynasty. It demonstrated the profound history and culture of Xuyi and reflected Xuyi’s ability to keep pace with times.

In the afternoon of June 8, as a key event of the festival, a large art show was staged on the mountainous square. “Ascend a height and look afar,” “look back to the past, at the present and into the future” and other original programs were performed. It showed the great culture and manner of the small city.

During the festival, rich and colorful activities were presented: the inauguration and first annual conference of the Organization for Integrated Protection of World Cultural Heritage - Ming Ancestors’ Mausoleum, the Xuyi Shisanxiang crayfish healthcare and beauty expert appraisal report, the “award issuing to the image ambassador of International Crayfish Festival of China and evening gala and ‘Qianmei‘ crayfish feast” held at Nanjing Wutaishan Gymnasium, a large model aircraft performance, a Xuyi girl ranger performance, a large mass culture bazaar and folk performance with the rich local characteristics of Xuyi, a large firework evening party.

The 3rd International Crayfish Festival of China (2003)

The 3rd International Crayfish Festival of China was held simultaneously in Xuyi, Nanjing, Shanghai and Jinhua of Zhejiang from August 26 to September 1, 2003.

Themed on the food festival, cultural festival, trade festival, tourist festival and folk custom festival, this festival was jointly organized by the Xuyi government, the Yangzi Evening News Agency and the Jiangsu provincial department of environmental protection. During the one-week celebration, 22 activities were held.

Xuyi county is an ancient town with a history of about 1000 years and is also a demonstration county for ecological development in China. It has profound culture, abundant economic resources and huge tourist potential.

The 4th International Crayfish Festival of China (2004)

The 4th International Crayfish Festival of China was held simultaneously in Xuyi, Nanjing, Shanghai and Jinhua of Zhejiang from July 6 to 15, 2004.

This festival was jointly organized by the Xuyi government and the Yangzi Evening News Agency. Each host city emphasized the unique strengths of its own crayfish.

Xuyi highlighted “three improvements”: Improve the educational and ethical standards of urban and rural residents, improve the income level of urban and rural residents and improve the reputation of Xuyi.

The 5th International Crayfish Festival of China (2005)

The 5th International Crayfish Festival of China was held simultaneously in Xuyi, Nanjing, Shanghai and Ningbo from June 28 to July 9, 2005.

This festival was jointly organized by the Xuyi government, Yangzi Evening News Agency, Jiangsu provincial department of environmental protection and Jiangsu TV Station. In the 12 days of celebration, rich and colorful activities were held.

The 6th International Crayfish Festival of China (2006)

The 6th International Crayfish Festival of China was ceremoniously held in Xuyi, Nanjing, Shanghai and Ningbo of Zhejiang from July 8 to 19, 2006.

The festival was jointly organized by the Xuyi government, Yangzi Evening News Agency, Jiangsu provincial department of environmental protection and Jiangsu TV Station. This festival stayed true to the concept of “promoting opening up by taking crayfish as a medium, hosting a great festival in four places, striving for development under human orientation, and initiatively joining the Yangtze River Delta” and focused on food, economics, culture and tourism.

The 7th International Crayfish Festival of China (2007)

The 7th International Crayfish Festival of China was ceremoniously held in Xuyi, Nanjing, Shanghai, Ningbo, Beijing and Shenzhen from June 11 to 28, 2008.

This festival was jointly organized by the Xuyi government, Yangzi Evening News Agency, Jiangsu provincial department of environmental protection, Jiangsu TV Station, and Jiangsu provincial bureau of ocean and fisheries. The principle of this festival is: festival as the medium, presentation as the focus, investment promotion as the real intention and development as the orientation.

The 8th International Crayfish Festival of China (2008)

The 8th International Crayfish Festival of China was simultaneously held in Xuyi, Nanjing, Beijing, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Shenzhen from June 12 to 29, 2008 and interacted with Australia, New Zealand and Sweden.

The 9th International Crayfish Festival of China (2009)

The 9th International Crayfish Festival of China was organized by the Xuyi government, Yangzi Evening News Agency, Jiangsu provincial department of environmental protection, Jiangsu provincial bureau of ocean and fishery, Jiangsu TV Station and the government of the State of Victoria, Australia.
