Founded in August 1998, Si.Park is the first country-level high-tech business incubation center and the first country-level innovation park for returnees in Wuxi. Si.Park covers an area of 150,000 square meters. It has successively won honors as a "National High-Tech Business Incubation Center" and "National Advanced Incubation Service in the High-Tech Area" conferred by the Ministry of Science and Technology. It was also recognized as an "Advanced National Business Incubation Service Center" at the 15th anniversary of the Touch Plan, "Excellent High-Tech Business Incubator" in Jiangsu province and “Advanced Group of Chemical Engineering in the High-Tech Industry."

The enterprises in Si.Park total over 1,000, and 420 enterprises are under incubation now. More than 17,000 technicians have gathered here to do some pioneering work, including Suntech Power, Memsic Semiconductor, Zhongxing Optoelectronics, Trumy Power Transmission and Xiangsheng Medical Image. Over 100 such high-tech enterprises have realized industrialization in the high-tech area through incubation. Specifically, Wuxi Suntech Power Co is China's first solar battery manufacturer listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Memsic Semiconductor Co is listed on the NASDAQ and is a developer of premium chip sensing and system solutions. Zhongxing Optoelectronics Technology Co is China's largest and the world's fifth largest fiber optic amplifier developer.

The number of enterprises under incubation in Si.Park have increased 38 times, the employees number have been increased by 22 times, the total revenues from technology, industry and trade have been increased by 919 times, the taxes paid have been increased by 654 times and the number of returnees have been increased by 184 times.

Over the past decade, scientific and technological achievements were transformed into products every two days on average. Every three days, there will be one New high-tech enterprises growing up in the new area, . A new patent was created in the science park every four days on average. A new high-tech enterprise passed authentication above the provincial level every two months on average.

In 2007, total revenues from technology, industry and trade enterprises under incubation and incubated in Si.Park exceeded 16 billion yuan ($2.61 billion), accounting for 5 percent of GDP of the high-tech area. The high-tech pioneering enterprises have become one of the important growth poles of finance and taxation in the Wuxi High-Tech Area.

Si.Park has received over 300 million yuan in financial grants from all levels. It has successfully incubated 78 provincial-level high-tech enterprises and 124 provincial-level high-tech products. Twelve projects have attained support of the National 863 Program, and it has 44 projects that have been subsidized with innovation funds for small and medium-sized enterprises from the Ministry of Science and Technology. Si.Park has also successively attained qualifications from the local service agency for subsidized innovation programs invested by innovation funds, the service agency for national innovation programs of newly-established small businesses, the organization for international scientific and technological cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the demonstration base of entrepreneurship guidance for small and medium-sized enterprises in Jiangsu province.

During the 11th Five-Year Plan period (2006-2010), Si.Park put the ideology of evolving from incubator to science park into practice. Covering an area of 1 million square meters, a science park integrated with scientific research, industrial service and living will be constructed in Wuxi (Taihu) International Science Park. At that time, a world-class scientific incubation community that features sophisticated functions and superior environment will appear along the banks of the Taihu Lake.
