A winter ice and snow festival in Dangkou has been luring Wuxi residents to beat the heat since opening at the beginning of July.

While not exactly environmentally friendly, minus 10 degree temperatures are maintained through a high-powered air-conditioning system, it has certainly proved a hit as the temperature continues to rise in East China and residents have been donning heavy winter coats at the facility to keep warm.

The snow festival has three main attractions: an ice maze, a range of delightful ice sculptures including cute polar animals and famous celebrities, and an ice sports area offering slides and ice bowling opportunities.

For youngsters not ready for high velocity fun there is the chance to shovel snow, build a snowman, ride a tricycle through wintery bliss and go ice bowling.

"Citizens can take their families to visit the Dangkou town for sightseeing and enjoy the cool ice castle at night," said Zou Wei, manager of the festival.
