Updated: 2014-10-17

Bristol-Myers Squibb (China) Medicine Co opened in Wuxi New District’s Life Science Park, Jiangsu province, on Oct 17.

Bristol-Myers Squibb is a multinational company focusing on the research and production of bio-pharmaceuticals. The establishment of its Chinese branch will further expand its market in China, promote business operations and accelerate its production line of biopharmaceuticals, according to Karl Lintel, president of Bristol-Myers Squibb (China) Medicine Co.

The investment in Wuxi New District will promote the business operation and management of the district, said Hong Yanwei, vice-director of the district’s management committee.

As one of the earliest transnational pharmaceutical companies in China, Bristol-Myers Squibb launched its Wuxi Company in September 2013 and passed the new-edition national GSP (Good Supply Practice) in October 2014. The company further developed into a diversified bio-pharmaceutical enterprise, centering on the R&D of biologicals and innovative micro-molecule drugs for tumors, cardiovascular disease and viral hepatitis.

The former Wuxi New District, now known as Wuxi Xinwu district or Wuxi National Hi-tech district, was founded in 1992 and underwent administrative changes in 1995, 2002 and 2005.
