Qin Bangxian’s former residence is located at No112 Chongning Road in the Chong’an district of Wuxi, Jiangsu province.

Qin Bangxian (1907-1946), also known as Bo Gu, was a leader of the early Chinese Communist Party. As an important founder and pioneer of journalism within the Party, Qin spent many of his younger years in the building.

Originally built during the reign of Emperor Guangxu in the Qing dynasty (1875-1908), the building is called “Jixi Hall” and works as the home of Qin Zhuoru, a local celebrity and Qin Bangxian’s uncle.

The premises have a ground area of 1,938 square meters and consist of seven buildings along east and west axes. The building is in a style typical to the Yangtze River Delta area. From 1916 to 1921, Qin Bangxian’s parents rented the fourth building on the west axis.

The horizontal inscribed board of this residence was written by the former president of China, Yang Shangkun. A collection of Qin Bangxian’s items and stories are exhibited in the house, the names of which were written by Bo Yibo, a proletarian revolutionist.

Display areas in the house are divided into six parts and introduce Qin’s short but fully-lived life. The areas are named “studying hard to serve the country”, “seeking truth and plunge into revolution”, “being entrusted with a mission at a difficult period”, “doing the united front work and making painstaking efforts”, “a brilliant new chapter of journalism” and “sparing no efforts in the performance of his duty and going down in the history.”

Retained in their original form are Qin’s bedroom, study and hall. In October, 2002, Qin Bangxian’s former residence was evaluated as a ‘Jiangsu provincial protected cultural site’ and was officially opened to the public in May, 2005. In December, 2008, it was authorized designated as an AAA-level tourist attraction. In May, 2013, it was approved as a key national relic protection unit.

Qin Bangxian’s former residence is also an educational base of the history of the Chinese Communist Party, a patriotism educational base in Wuxi and an exemplary site of red tourism.
