In 2012, the city achieved an aggregate economic volume of $720 billion with GDP per capita nearly $14,000 and budgetary revenue exceeding $73 billion.

Nanjing, with over 50 institutions of tertiary education, more than 600 research institutions above the provincial level, 810,000 college students (including undergraduates and postgraduates), and 80 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), boasts numerous advantages in talent resources. In 2011, Nanjing was named a National Technologically Advanced City in the national technological advancement appraisal conducted by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The 2013 Asian Youth Games and 2014 Youth Olympic Games will be held in Nanjing. International Olympic Committee (IOC) family members from 205 countries and regions will gather in Nanjing during these events, providing an excellent opportunity and platform to showcase Nanjing and China.
