More than 1.7 million people visited attractions at the 4A level or above in Suzhou of Jiangsu province during the three-day Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, according to statistics from the Suzhou tourism bureau.

The average tourism numbers increased 17.11 percent from Mid-Autumn Day last year, and 47.32 percent from 2011. Ticket income from attractions reached 27.03 million yuan ($160,000), increasing 35.02 percent and 44.13 percent from 2011 and 2012, respectively.

More than 50 events such as autumn tours, moon gazing and fruit picking were held during the festival.

The Straits (Kunshan) Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival, one of the main events, attracted thousands of people every day and was the most popular folk event.

Driving tours to Tongli water town, Mudu ancient town and Shihu scenic area were favorites for tourists from nearby cities such as Shanghai.

Sports events at the sports center and Yunhe Park were popular among local residents.

Many residents said they would travel far during Mid-Autumn Festival because the seven-day National Day holiday comes in less than 10 days. Eighty percent of tourists came from nearby places. Nearly 50 percent of them took one-day tours.
