In February 2013, the State Council approved the establishment in Kunshan of an experimental zone for strengthening cross-strait industrial cooperation and will offer support in eight sectors such as industrial development, finance and taxation policy, trade promotion and personnel exchanges. In August 2013, Shanghai Free Trade Zone was established by the State Council, and Suzhou might be one of the follow up cities for free trade zone program. Since the year 2011,Kunshan's annual expenditure on tourism development projects accounts for 100 million yuan (16.34 million).
