Baotou, one of the cities situated on the upper reaches of the Yellow River, opened a new museum introducing Yellow River civilization on July 18, reports Baotou Daily.

Located in Jiuyuan district of Baotou, the museum covers an area of 1,000 square meters.

The museum boasts some 2,000 collections by Li Tiandong, a local architect and designer, and 20 exhibition rooms designed in the shape of traditional Baotou residential architecture. More than 10 themed zones have been set up in the museum including a carpentry shop, a blacksmiths and a cobbler’s workshop to represent scenes from daily life in the past.

In Chinese history, the Yellow River is known as the origins of culture and civilization. The river played an important role in the early development of Chinese civilization.

The river is widely considered to have been "the Cradle of Chinese Civilization".
