Orange Island Park in Changsha reopened to the public on July 15, welcoming 10,000 visitors after being closed for 15 days after the heavy rains in late June and mid-July.

One of the best-known scenic spots in Hunan province, the park is located in the center of Xiangjiang River, and is home to Beach Park, a 100-feet fountain, a statue of Mao Zedong, a viewing pavilion, a thinking platform and the Orange Isle fireworks show.

Peng Zhihao, director of the Orange Isle Scenic Spot Management Office, praised the local government and volunteers around Changsha for restoring the park to its former beauty after the flooding.

"More than 5,000 volunteers along with over 200 workers devoted their time and full energy to help clean and renovate the park affected by the aftermath of the flood," Peng said.

All equipment such as the sightseeing trains, public toilets, leisure pavilions and the Orange Isle stop of the metro have all been back into use.

The park opens from 7 am to 6 pm till July 24, and 7 am to 10 pm afterwards.
