Changsha county's Maiji Island, sitting mid-stream of the Xunlong River, was covered in 100,000 brightly colored pinwheels on March 11, in its first festival dedicated to the windswept toys and all things blustery.

Pinwheels of all different shapes and sizes have been arranged in intricate displays across the island for children and families to enjoy.

Rainbow-colored tunnels whose walls spin as the wind blows can be walked through, providing the soaked and saturated chromatic assault upon the eyes.

Artificial fields of spinning sunflowers whirl and turn in the breeze providing perfect opportunities to visitors wanting a truly unique day out.

Dotted around the pinwheel displays are statues of characters from popular animations and cartoons, allowing children to see their TV heroes in the real life.

Priced at 40 yuan ($5.8) per person, the festival runs until April 5.
