Changsha propels development of rural tourism

The closing ceremony of “making an appointment with you in the most beautiful villages in Changsha” – a themed activity to provides city residents the opportunity of walking into the countryside and experiencing the beauty there – was launched beside Qianlong Lake in the town of Getang, Wangcheng district on Dec 21.

The host party organized a “one-day-tour” of Getang and hundreds of residents visited scenic spots such as the Qianlong Lake National Wetland Park, Wangcheng Vegetable Industry Demonstration Zone, Longjiang Canal, Yunyou Tea Garden, and Wanfoling Elderly Service Center.

In recent years, the town has put 450 million yuan altogether into improving its infrastructure construction, including the construction and renovation of 230 km of highways, the building of more than 130 km of canals, and the comprehensive treatment of Tuantou Lake and Getang Reservoir.

The town has also put great efforts into developing rural leisure tourism, grounded on its ecological resources of the Qianlong Lake National Wetland Park and the Tuantou Lake Provincial Wetland. The Qianlong Lake Eco-tourism Resort is well-known as one of the “national top 10 ecological leisure farms”.

Zhang Xiangtao, the head of Changsha publicity department, attended the activityand said that the municipal Party committee and government has attached great importance to the construction of beautiful villages in recent years and has achieved remarkable achievements, which have been fully displayed during the activity of “making an appointment with you in the most beautiful villages in Changsha”.

It is a large-scale annual brand activity, hosted by the Changsha municipal Party committee and government, organized by the municipal publicity department, agriculture bureau, tourism bureau, Changsha Evening News, and others, and assisted by the local governments of all the districts and counties.

Over the past three years, the event has attracted a large number of Changsha residents to participate, and played an active role in displaying the achievements of urban-rural integration, propelling the construction of new-type urbanization, building rural tourism brands, and cultivating regional ecological civilization.

Themed on “experiencing the joys of life” this year, a total of nine activities have been held so far, in the towns of Kaihui, Jinshan Qiao, Xiaduopu, Chating, Dawei Mountain, Lukou, Pingtang, Shaping, and Getang.

Changsha seeks to revive porcelain production

In recent years, the local government has sought to revive the region's long tradition in porcelain making and boost local industry with the cultural influence of ancient Tongguan kilns, which have a history of 1,200 years.
