Changsha modern agriculture innovation demonstration zone

The Changsha modern agriculture innovation and demonstration zone was the first to get Hunan government approval, in September 2008, and was named a national modern agriculture demonstration zone, in August 2010.

The zone follows a Changsha county development plan for industry to the south and agriculture to the north, with 12 towns and villages to the north, to develop comprehensive, sustainable modern agriculture through innovation.

The project is expected to cost 15 billion yuan for a planned area of 1,151 sq km, 243 sq km of that for cultivated land, and a population of 380,000, to be implemented in the 2009-2013 period. It will consist of a modern agriculture science and technology innovation and management base, a rural construction base, demonstration areas for rice, vegetables, tea, flowers and fruits, industries in super hybrid and better quality rice, organic tea, green vegetables, edible mushrooms, special fruits, nursery plants, breeding, and agricultural sightseeing, and a hundred modern farms. Its purpose is to introduce agriculture industrialization, standardized construction, urban-rural integration, agriculture demonstration parks, agricultural and sideline product processing, and strategic investment.

Planning was basically completed by December 2008 and it is subject to preferential Changsha county policies and has sole proprietorship and joint capital investment arrangements.
