Huaqiao turns green
2009-08-21

The acreage of afforestation has increased by over three million square meters since the establishment of Huaqiao economic development zone three years ago.

Over the years, four large-scaled parks have been built, namely Bridge Garden, Huaxiao Park, Central Park and Golden Valley Park, whose afforestation area reaches 1.2 million square meters.

Bridge Garden with many kinds of archaize bridges reflects the bridge culture in Kunshan and covers 750 thousand square meters.

In order to honor and inherit cultural heritage, many ancient bridges are rebuilt in the garden, including three bridges (Blessing Bridge, Longevity Bridge and Eternity Bridge) in Huaqiao Tianfu Temple and Fuchun Bridge, or Fortune and Spring Bridge, which is built in Ming dynasty (1368-1644) and inscribed by Kuang Zhong, a renowned honest official of Suzhou. New resources including wind and solar energies are applied in the garden.

Based on the idea of ecological and sustainable operation, the buildings around the Central Park are mainly made of materials and technologies to reduce pollution and energy consumption. All the materials used in the park are renewable.

In addition, there are dozens of communities covered with trees and grass. Among them is Bamboo Garden, a private garden, covering 8000 square meters. There are pavilions, towers and rockeries over the garden. The most attractive spot is 3000 square meter bonsai garden, containing a plenty of expensive and valuable bonsais, such as a podocarpus macrophyllus with 1.6 meter diameter and pines with various shapes.

In terms of afforestation which is the base for the ecological environment, Huaqiao International Service Business Park has topped the development zones in Kunshan city.
