Natural Resources

Ruzhou enjoys an abundance of mineral resources, with 46 mineral detected, including raw coal, bauxite, hydraulic limestone and geothermal water. It’s estimated that Ruzhou, dubbed as “a-hundred-mile coal sea,” has a raw coal reserve of 3.55 billion tonnes and a yearly coal productivity of 6 million tonnes, enabling it to rank among the 50 major coal mining cities and counties nationwide. Ruzhou’s estimated bauxite storage is 430 million tonnes, and hydraulic limestone 115 million tonnes. With a high-grade and convenient mining industry, Ruchuan’s resource advantages promise it a rosy future in industries such as energy, power, electricity, building materials, metallurgy, founding, etc.

Industrial Economy

Since the Reform and Opening-Up, Ruzhou, with its powerful industrial foundation, has gradually established six production bases for energy and chemical engineering, concrete, steel casting, starch, biscuits and Sanfen (sweet potato starch, sweet potato vermicelli and sweet potato starch sheet), utilizing its advantages in resources, local policies, geographical position and culture.

Ruzhou enjoys an optimized industrial structure with its four pillar industries: energy, building materials, metallurgy and food. Major industrial products include raw coal, coke, concrete, steel, food, cigarettes, electricity, fertilizer and ceramics. Many of its companies are speeding ahead of other provincial and national industrial competitors, such as Tianrui Group, Tianze Coke Company, Zhengtie Sanjia Company, Dragon Starch Company, Dream Food Co. Ltd., Shuncheng Chemical Engineering Co. Ltd., and Yaxing Casting Company. The China Huadian Corporation’s Heping Coal Branch, Yongcheng Coal and Electricity Holding Group planned to invest 20 billion yuan ($3 billion) to set up a series of projects on energy resource and heavy chemical engineering, with an annual productivity of 15 million tonnes of raw coal, 1.2 million tonnes of coke, 150,000 tonnes of tar, 200,000 tonnes of bauxite and bauxite products, 10,000 tonnes of methanol, and an electric generator set that can generate 4X900 kilowatts electricity every year.

Ruzhou aims to become the biggest energy and heavy chemical engineering base in Henan Province by the end of 2010. By then a new industry cluster with high added values in coal coking, coal-powered concrete and steel productions will also be established.

Agricultural Economy

Ruzhou has a well-structured agriculture with abundance of wheat, corns, sweet potatoes, soybeans, tobacco leaves, peanuts, cartons, vegetables, flowers and plants. At present, Ruzhou owns an high-quality exclusive wheat base of 300,000 mu (20,000 hectares), high-quality corn base 200,000 mu (13,333 hectares), high-starch sweet potatoes base 20,000 mu, and fruit and vegetable base 10,0000 mu(6,667 hectares).

Meanwhile, the pollution-free vegetable, edible fungus and fruit industries rise at a rapid pace. The all-round development of an agriculture-oriented economy enables Ruzhou City to realize a high-quality and professionalized agricultural production, evidenced by the increasingly high proportions of high-pitch major products, such as wheat and corn, having become the key wheat commercial production base in China.

As the key forestry county in Henan, Ruzhou’s livestock farming industry is playing a more and more important role in its agricultural economy. Ruzhou has succeeded in transforming its small raising scale into a large and organized one, making it a major production base for meat and commercial swine in China. In the meantime, Ruzhou is also the exporting base for lean type swine, commercial eggs, beef and live sheep in Henan Province. Ruzhou’s Siyuan cattle farm is the largest and the most modernized cattle raising base in Henan. Other agricultural by-product processing companies, such as Dragon Starch Limited Company and Dream Food Limited Company also settled in Ruzhou.

Social Development

With 595 schools of different types at all different levels, 18,965 on-job teachers, and 9,437 technicians, Ruzhou’s social powerhouse is now on the rise. All of its 34 medical institutions, including two disease prevention centers, a supervisory organ, and a health-care institution for women and children, are well-organized, with medical personnel of 1,649 people.

In addition, Ruzhou’s culture, tourism, sports, broadcasting and television industries are also embracing a thriving future. Ruzhou has drawn its blueprint for a prosperous society in a well-rounded way, and Ruzhou people will, with enthusiasm, forge Ruzhou into a more civilized city with a stronger economy, more pleasant environment and better living conditions.

City Construction

Ruzhou has optimized its central core city functionality: ten major roads have woven themselves into a convenient traffic network; a newly established sewage treatment plant has industrialized the treatment of city waste water; city green percentages have achieved 18.8%; Ruzhou has become the first county-level city that utilizes gas engineering; the number of mobile phone customers has risen to 45,000; over 160,000 households have installed program-controlled telephones; and last, but not least, wireless local networks and Internets have also been put into use, providing a safe, efficient and modern communication means for the magnificent people of Ruzhou.
