Guizhou is home to 49 ethnic groups, including Han, Miao, Bouyei, and Dong, who together form a rich cultural tapestry that is reflected in their diverse languages, clothing, architecture, music and dance.

These people have created a mosaic of cultural elements. Whether simple or sophisticated, these elements constitute the experiences, expectations and symbols of local ethnic groups and are usually demonstrated in local festivals.

According to experts on folk culture in Guizhou, local ethnic groups celebrate more than 1,000 festivals each year. Among the largest ones are the New Year, the Lusheng Festival and the Sister Festival of the Miao people. Other major festivals include the June 6 Festival of the Bouyei people, the Torch Festival of the Yi people, the Duan Festival of the Sui people and the Panwang Festival of the Yao people.

The brilliant culture is the result of harmonious co-existence of ethnic groups.

With some scattered over vast areas and others living in concentrated communities, they have developed a regional feature of multi-ethnic harmony and a tradition of "a bit of me in you and a bit of you in me" in Guizhou.

As early as the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), Madame Shexiang, a Yi politician, vigorously promoted multi-ethnic fusion. Afterwards, local ethnic groups, hand in hand, took part in the anti-feudal struggle and fought for the founding of Peoples' Republic of China. Since then, new policies have attracted different ethnic groups to settle down in Guizhou, making great contribution to cultural prosperity of the province.

Guizhou, with a history of 600 years, has been a perfect example of ethnic fusion and unity with common progress.
