Tian'e nominated for 'Chinese Longevity Village' title

An expert group visited Tian'e county in Hechi, Guangxi, to investigate its natural resources and cultural characteristics for the title of "Chinese Longevity Village" on Oct 28-29.

After investigation, the expert group held a certification conference, hosted by Zhao Baohua, deputy director of China Aging Working Committee Office and standing vice chairman of China Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics.

The experts unanimously considered that Tian'e meets the criterion for being one of the second batch of "Chinese Longevity Village" and advised the China Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics to award the title to Tian'e.

Hechi has so far six counties with the title of "Chinese Longevity Village".

Tian'e has a total population of about 173,000, and 29 of them are centenarians, which corresponds to 16.78 centenarians in every 100,000 residents, higher than the 10/100,000 standard. It has a forest coverage of 84.25 percent and is regarded as natural type longevity area.

Hechi is located in the northwestern part of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and the southern foothills of the Yungui Plateau.
