Zhanjiang votes for most beautiful lights

A vote is to be held to decide which of Zhanjiang's Chinese New Year illuminations impressed the most this year. The public polls will be open until mid-March.

The vote is sponsored by Zhanjiang Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau and Zhanjiang Urban Administration Bureau, and organized by major local media outlets including Zhanjiang Daily, and yinsha.com.

Entries include the landscape lighting of main streets, light displays in commercial buildings, and light fixtures in offices. Using a percentage system, experts will grade each display on its design, installation, and visual effect, with the experts evaluation accounting for 50 percent of the vote.

The public can cast votes via the internet, with their ballots counting for 30 percent. A further vote from industry experts will account for the final 20 percent of the vote.

This year's Spring Festival illuminations took place against the backdrop of the government's desire to create a better nightscape in the city. It also follows the city's wish for its lighting displays to be consistent with Chinese first-tier cities.
