A bicycle 'highway' for ecological Zhanjiang

Updated: 2016-02-23

In order to develop itself as an ecological city, Zhanjiang announced to build a bicycle "highway" in its annual government work report released on Feb 18.

The coastal city in South China's Guangdong province plans to construct a fast bike lane along the north section of Guangzhou Bay Avenue, which is a major scenic road for the city to boost its coastal tourism.

Construction of the Guangzhou Bay Avenue north part has been completed in August, 2015. The sight-seeing belt, when fully completed, will connect all the scenic spots along the west coast.

The cycle way is expected to diversify the trips modes for residents and tourists to enjoy the coastal scenery.

However, Zhanjiang has also stepped up efforts to build a slow traffic system in recent years. It plans to construct 13 greenways citywide totaling around 400 kilometers and so far 142 km of them have been completed.
