Zhanjiang receives new foreign tourists in 2016

By Shen Yi Updated: 2016-01-04

More than 80 foreign students from over 30 countries and regions visited Leizhou, a county-level city in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province on Jan 2, according to Leizhou's youth canal authority.

Hosted by the Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangdong, the students were shown around a handful of tourist attractions in the county, including the Hedi Reservoir, the Youth Canal Memorial and the education bases on Party history and anti-graft. It is hoped that the foreign students will have a better insight into the county's cultural background.

The Hedi Reservoir is listed as the second-largest reservoir in Guangdong province. Covering an area of 1,440 square kilometers, it is a comprehensive facility providing irrigation to Leizhou and its surrounding areas. The reservoir also helps in flood control, power generation and water transportation in the area.

The students all spoke highly of the reservoir after they watched a promotional video and visited the site.
