Uncle Luo's art farmyard
By Xu Lili Updated: 2015-06-18
Luo Yu, 79, also called "Uncle Luo" by local people out of respect, established an art farmyard in his hometown Luowu village, Wutang town, Zhanjiang's Suixi county.
The farmyard has an art atmosphere with strong local flavor. There are more than 400 artworks on display such as calligraphic works, paintings, root carvings and bonsais.
Uncle Luo loves calligraphy and painting since his childhood and picked up the hobby when he retired in 1997. He has created over 400 calligraphic works and paintings, including a 16 meter-long pencil drawing scroll, which is regarded as his masterpiece.
Luo is indifferent to fame and fortune. He refused to sell his artworks when someone was even willing to pay a high price.
He teaches teenagers calligraphy and painting skills during weekends and holidays voluntarily, in a laudable effort to pass down traditional Chinese culture and art on to younger generations.
