Zhanjiang will include migrant workers into the waiting list of affordable housing in 2015, an effort to let the public enjoy more equal access to social welfare.

Chen Qiong, director of Zhanjiang Housing Management Bureau, made the announcement during the annual affordable housing construction working meeting of Zhanjiang city.

Chen reviewed the achievements Zhanjiang had made in constructing affordable housing in 2014 and set the target for 2015.

According to Chen, Zhanjiang completed 2,326 units of affordable housing last year, overfulfilling the task of construction assigned by the provincial government.

A total of 7,112 units of affordable housing will start construction this year, with 1,904 units of public rental housing. The construction project also includes renovation of shantytowns in the urban area and the State-owned forest region.

The government will introduce a distribution database system to ensure fairness for all applicants on the waiting list. It also encourages more nongovernmental capital to be put in constructing the public rental housing.

The city will reinforce efforts to increase the occupancy rate of the affordable housing. According to the Inspection Method of Public Rental Housing Distribution newly issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the public rental housing should reach an occupancy rate over 90 percent three years after completion.
