Political adviser suggests establishing cross-border e-commerce platform

CPPCC member Wang Hongrong speaks at the annual meeting of CPPCC's Zhanjiang Committee on February 3.

A political adviser suggested establishing a cross-border e-commerce platform in the bonded logistics center

The Zhanjiang bonded logistics center, authorized by the central government in October, 2014, will attract logistics enterprises from home and abroad to settle in. It will help lower logistics cost for foreign trade enterprises. It also applies protective tariff on the products within the area, which means consumers can buy duty-free products in the bonded logistics center.

The establishment of a cross-border e-commerce platform will help small and medium enterprises reach the overseas market more easily and provide them with more business opportunities.

The CPPCC member Wang Hongrong also proposed setting up cross-border e-commerce physical stores, which will greatly benefit local residents, as purchasing overseas consumer goods has become a new fashion among the public.

She said the overseas products from clothing, shoes, and brand handbags to cosmetics and milk powder have won a huge consumer group. “The bonded logistics center should not only serve staple commodity and mineral trading, but also pay attention to food and other consumer goods more relevant to people’s daily life,” Wang said.

Wang also suggested more exchanges between Zhanjiang and other countries in marine industries by taking advantage of its geographical superiority as a coastal city.
