Organizers of the first National Youth Games (NYG), hosted in Fujian province, have made great cost-saving efforts, according to the Southeast Express, a Fuzhou-based newspaper.

At a press conference Friday, Zhang Han, an official of the NYG Fuzhou Committee said the organizers have borrowed and rented a large number of facilities and materials instead buying, which saved them more than 21 million yuan ($3.3 million USD).

Zhang added that the new purchases will be kept by revenues if needed once the Games is over. Otherwise they will be sold to schools with procurement needs.

In the meantime, a smaller administration structure has been adopted as authorities optimized departments and personnel with similar functions.

The new Athletes’ Village is a cluster of new compound buildings, which will be put up for sale as common commercial properties.
