Fuzhou jasmine recognized in global agriculture heritage list

According to the Fuzhou Municipal Bureau of Agriculture, Fuzhou Jasmine Planting and Tea Culture System was honored with a “Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System” title, Fujian Daily reported on April 29.

Experts from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations specially came to Fuzhou to inspect the Fuzhou Jasmine Planting and Tea Culture System on April 5. After the visit, it was awarded the “Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System” title in Rome, Italy, on April 29.

As the only city in China considering jasmine as its city flower, Fuzhou, by virtue of its unique environment, has been cultivating fragrant and delicate jasmine tea, to become the birth land of the jasmine tea. Fuzhou Jasmine Planting and Tea Culture System, including its tea culture, the culture of Maritime Silk Road, root culture and fragrance culture, is complex culture.

In recent years, the Fuzhou Municipal Party Committee and government strived to protect and develop the system of Fuzhou jasmine planting and tea culture,and took active measures to cultivate good stock, and applied for the heritage list.

Previously, thanks to the jasmine, Fuzhou won several honors such as “world Jasmine Tea birthplace” title in 2011, Fuzhou Jasmine Tea "world famous" title in 2012 and “Chinese First Important Agricultural Heritage” in 2013.
