Enhancing the Construction of China’s Health Education System (Special Issue, No.66, 2019)

Abstract: As the most cost-effective intervention, health education plays a significant role in promoting the formation of healthy life styles, rational utilization of medical services and improving the health of our people. China’s overall health education at present is still yet to be improved, and there are also many problems remaining to be resolved in terms of its implementation and organization. During the construction of a “Healthy China”, health education needs to be given the top priority. In the future, the construction of health education system needs to be strengthened from the following aspects. First, the organizational and coordination system for health promotion and education needs to be reformed and refined by replacing the “National Patriotic Health Campaign Committee” with the “National Health Promotion Committee”. Second, the overall plan for health promotion and education needs to be enhanced and its legislation needs to be accelerated. Third, the health education implementation system, which covers grass-root medical care institutions, hospitals, schools and workplaces, needs to be fleshed out so that the health education can benefit all the people. Fourth, human resources for health education needs to be fairly allocated and the talent training for the cause needs to be strengthened. Fifth, an information managing and sharing mechanism for health education services needs to be established. Sixth, a refined monitoring and evaluating mechanism for health education needs to be set up.
