Research Report, No.96, 2019 (Total 5596) 2019-6-20

Abstract: Viewing from international experience, it can be found that rural areas follow their own laws of development, and their values and functions get enriched with social and economic development. The evolution of the rural areas’ values in the early developers is featured by a trajectory from “productivism” to “post-productivism” and then to “multi-functional villages”, and the government’s rural development policy has also changed accordingly. With the improvement of industrialization and urbanization in China, the rarity of rural areas is becoming more and more tangible. Their economic, ecological, cultural and social values are increasingly prominent, and their position in the course of national modernization is elevated. In order to promote the revitalization of rural areas in the new era, efforts need to be made to strength the weak links of rural areas, and leverage the edges of rural areas so as to highlight their values and functions. We need to grasp their multiple values holistically to promote the overall rural revitalization on a type-by-type basis and in light of local conditions. Special attention needs to be paid to enhancing the connectivity between urban and rural areas and speeding up the two-way integration, and giving full play to cities’ role of supporting rural areas’ development, in a bid to continuously improve the value of rural areas against the landscape of urbanization, and properly promote the revitalization of rural areas in a scientific manner.

Key words: rural revitalization, values of rural areas, development laws
