Research Report No 49, 2000

Abstract: With the continued migration of farmers to the cities, the number of migrants’ children has been considerably increased. How to give these children proper education has become a major social issue. People may find that beyond the government education system, a marginalized elementary education mode has come into being. In Beijing and some other big cities, there are some non-formal schools specifically for the enrollment of low-income migrants’ children. Based on the preliminary investigation on more than 100 schools in Beijing, this paper hopes to attract the attention of relevant departments on the education of migrants’ children in the course of social transformation.
