China-UK Environmental Science and Policy Seminar held in Beijing

Participants at the China-UK Environmental Science and Environmental Policy Seminar, which was held in Beijing, on March 11, discussed research progress in environmental science involving China and the UK and how the environmental science research can contribute more to policy analysis and government decision-making in environmental protection.

The seminar was expected to come up with suggestions on how to improve China's environmental policy research and modernize China's environmental governance system and capacity.

Zhang Laiming, Vice-President of the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC), and Barbara Woodward, Britain's Ambassador to China, both made a speech at the opening ceremony.

Gao Shiji, director-general, and Li Zuojun, vice-director-general of the DRC's Research Institute for Resources and Environment Policies, Wang Hao, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Professor Alan Jenkins, deputy director of CEH gave speeches at the meeting, with scholars and exports at home and abroad taking part in.

The seminar was held by the DRC's Research Institute for Resources and Environment Policies and its International Cooperation Department, the UK Science and Innovation Network China, and the UK's Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH). Cheng Guoqiang, director-general of DRC's International Cooperation Dept, presided over the seminar.
