The Sino-French Roundtable on Aging is held in Suzhou

On September 23-24, a Sino-French Roundtable on Aging was held in Suzhou. The meeting was jointly organized by DRC, Segalen Foundation of France and Suzhou Municipal Government. The senior officials attending the meeting and delivering opening speeches included Mr. Chen Zhu, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), Mr. Li Wei, President of DRC, Mr. Sun Zhigang, Minister of National Health and Family Planning Commission, and Mrs. Sylvie Bermann, French Ambassador to China. Mr. Zhang Laiming, Vice President of DRC, chaired the opening ceremony. Mr. Sun Xiaoyu, President of China International Association for Rural and Urban Development,delivered concluding remarks. Chinese participants also included representatives from National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Finance, National Health and Family Planning Commission, Ministry of Civil Affairs, The Chinese Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, China Aging Problem National Committee, Chinese Academy of Engineering, Suzhou Municipal Government, research institutions, renowned hospitals and senior care organizations. Relevant government officials, scholars and business executives from France, as well as the representatives from the French companies in China, attended the roundtable. The Chinese and French participants exchanged views on challenges and opportunities of an aging society, the economic and social effects as well as related medical and professional developments. Through frank and heated discussions, the participants reached consensus on an active attitude towards the aging trend.
