China, Greece seek further judicial cooperation

The ministries of justice of China and Greece look forward to further judicial cooperation to serve programs and countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

A Chinese judiciary delegation led by Zhao Dacheng, vice-minister of the Ministry of Justice of China, visited Greece from Oct 31 to Nov 4.

During the visit, agreements between China and Greece on further judicial cooperation and better services to programs and countries involved in the BRI were reached.

The delegation visited local women's prisons and drug treatment centers and inspected legislation as well as enforcement, judicial and legal education systems.

According to Zhao, Greece was the first developed country in Europe to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on promoting the BRI with China.

He expressed his willingness to see further judicial cooperation between the two countries' ministries of justice to serve and guarantee communication, trade and financial support for countries involved in the BRI.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights of the Hellenic Republic spoke highly of previous judicial cooperation between the two nations and showed an interest in further cooperation in international assistance regarding criminal justice.

A seminar for the delegation and representatives of China-invested enterprises in Greece was held to learn their overseas judicial needs.
