Two detained following assault on police in Tangshan

Police in Tangshan, North China's Hebei province, detained a woman who is married to a local tax official and a man who allegedly insulted and hit police officers in the face after video catching the moment went viral online.

On Saturday at 8:09 pm, a woman in the video slapped two police officers eight times and made vicious remarks. For one minute and 52 seconds, she hit the officers in the face four times.

Another woman in the video tried to persuade her to stop but failed. Two men stood nearby.

On Tuesday, the alleged attackers were detained for obstructing public business, according to a police statement by Tangshan Public Security Bureau Haigang Branch.

The statement said police and auxiliary officers from the Seventh Team of the Tangshan Public Security Traffic Police detachment suffered insult and assault without reason, involving a male, surnamed Zhao and a female, surnamed Liang.

The video posted online rapidly caught netizens' attention as the attacker abused and slapped police.

On Wednesday, a staffer from the Tangshan Tax Bureau confirmed that the woman accused of slapping police is the wife of the deputy director of the local tax bureau, according to a media report from Cover News Wednesday.
