Forty-six newly elected judges, including the vice president, members of judicial committees, tribunal presidents andvice tribunal presidents of the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), vowed loyalty to the Constitution on Dec 26.
Four circuit court judges who were elected on Dec 25 also took part in the oath-taking ceremony. Zhou Qiang, president of the SPC, supervised the ceremony and Executive Vice-president Shen Deyong led the judges in making the vow.
According to the NPC Standing Committee’s decision on the pledge of allegiance to the Constitution which took effect on January 1, governments, people’s courts and people’s procuratorates at all levels must take an oath of loyalty to the Constitution in public when they take office.
