Beijing prepares the 9th Global Conference on Health Promotion

Health promotion is a strategy to improve people’s health and life quality. The global conference on health promotion is the highest-level meeting for the strategy. As the organizer of the 9th Global Conference on Health Promotion, China held a meeting of the conference organizing committee in Beijing on July 23.

Cui Li, vice-minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) and Oleg Chestnov, assistant director-general of World Health Organization headquarters, attended the meeting and delivered speeches.

“The global conference on health promotion will bring China’s health sector new chances. China will coordinate resources and prepare the conference.” Cui Li said.

Oleg Chestnov expressed his gratitude for China’s preparations. He stressed that health crises such as Ebola make nations across the world realize that health promotion should rely on multilateral cooperation.

The 9th Global Conference on Health Promotion will be held in Shanghai from November 21 to 24, 2016 with the theme of “Health promotion in sustainable development”.

Also taking part in the meeting were representatives who introduced the preparations for the conference, including Saia Mau Piukala, health minister of Tonga, Carlos Antonio Nardi, Brazil’s general secretary of health monitoring, and officials from NHFPC and WHO headquarters.
