The Ice Bucket Challenge has swept across overseas social media recently, and now the fever is coming to China! The Internet meme originated in America in July to raise funds for patients of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), the lethal neurodegenerative disorder also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The challenge encourages participants to dump a bucket of ice water on their heads and post the video of the process on the Internet, and then each of them can nominate others to get soaked within 24 hours or donate at least $100 to the ALS Association.

Foreign tech elites, including billionaire and philanthropist Bill Gates, Facebook's CEO Mark Elliot Zuckerberg, and Apple Inc's CEO Tim Cook, have already finished the challenge. Top executives of Chinese technology companies, such as Baidu Inc chairman and founder Robin Li, Xiaomi Technology Co's founder and chairman Lei Jun, Qihoo360's president Zhou Hongyi, and Youku Tudou Inc's chairman and CEO Gu Yongqiang, have also completed the challenge and donated money to the association.

In China, another ongoing Ice Bucket Challenge has been launched by the China-Dolls Center for Rare Disorders (CCRD) to raise public awareness for rare disorders and patients. CCRD is a non-profit organization founded in 2008. It mainly provides services to patients suffering from osteogenesis imperfecta and other rare disorders.
