The Sichuan government wasted no time sending medical and rescue teams to Yunnan’s Ludian county, which was jolted by an earthquake on August 3. The Yibin and Luzhou municipal governments sent a team of 56 medical personnel and 12 ambulances to the disaster area late in the evening on that day. The Yibin medical team was the first from the outside to arrive at Ludian People’s Hospital and engage in helping the wounded.

Adjacent to Yunnan, Yibin sent the first medical team of 25 people headed by Luo Qiang, deputy director of the city’s health bureau, at 10:30pm. The medical personnel come from the health bureau and the local first people’s hospital. They brought with them four ambulances and drugs that were in urgent need, according to Luo.

“At the moment, all medical personnel have arrived at the Central Primary School of Longtoushan county at the epicenter, and transferred more than 30 injured people by ambulances,” said Luo on August 4.
A total of 57 people with injuries received medical treatment, including 19 severely wounded and six in critical condition, according Luo. All the injured have been sent over to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The Yibin medical team arrived at 4am, March 4, according to Tang Jun, chief officer at the rural health management division of the Yibin health bureau. “We experienced aftershocks on our way here and a sudden collapse on a road section near Longtoushan county, but managed to arrive on schedule,” said Tang.
