Beijing is expected to build a new innovation center in Zhongguancun, where start-ups can gather, according to the Beijing Daily.

The new center --- likely to be named Zhongguancun Intelligent Manufacturing Street --- will be an incubator for cutting-edge manufacturing and a window for the “hard technology” in Beijing’s Haidian District.

According to the plan, the 380-meter street will settle in Wudaokou, a gathering of research centers and institutes of higher learning.

The street will connect the PBC School of Finance with Tsinghua University’s on the east and Zhongguancun East Road on the west. At present, it is aimed at office workers and business people.

Last year, the Chinese government released the ‘Made in China 2025’ strategy and the core of the plan is to promote the intelligent manufacturing,” said Meng Jingwei, deputy district head of Haidian. “Therefore, we are going to build an intelligent manufacturing street to attract technology and intellectual resources, not traditional factories.”

It is reported that the new street will also be a promoter of technology exchanges and speed up the transfer of the R & D achievements into real products.

Haidian District will set up service platforms to support industrial design, software and hardware solutions, mass production and marketing.

Surrounded by world-class enterprises such as Microsoft, Google and VIA, the street will become a key area for international exchanges,” said Li Changping, deputy director of the Haidian Park.

At present, the landscape design of the street has finished and programs such as the nightscape lighting and landscape green land will start soon. According to the plan, an extra space will be used to exhibit intelligent hard ware.

The street is expected to open in the first half of 2016.
