Roundtable maps out path for Northeast China revitalization

A major roundable got to work on July 8 – in Changchun, capital city of Northeast China's Jilin province – aimed at mapping out a path for the revitalization of the region in the new era.

The one-day event reportedly looked at ways to achieve new breakthroughs to achieve the goal.

The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and US Multinational Enterprises Roundtable Meeting (Jilin) was hosted by the Department of International Cooperation and the Department of Regional Economy at the Beijing-based NDRC, as well as the Jilin Provincial Development and Reform Commission.

It saw the participation of Jilin officials, NDRC staff members, as well as more than 90 representatives of multinational corporations.

Under the theme of "Forging the New Development paradigm, Revitalizing Northeast China", the event is to expected to help Changchun build a platform for opening up to the outside world, as well as to enable the city to strive to be at the forefront of rejuvenating the region.

Ning Jizhe, deputy director of the NDRC, delivered a speech in which he said that Northeast China – especially Jilin province – was an important commodity grain base and industrial hub in the country and had good natural conditions and industrial foundations. The region has been accelerating the recruitment of top people in various fields, while continuing to improve its levels of urbanization.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the NDRC reportedly plans to increase its support for the comprehensive revitalization of Northeast China, promote industrial transformation and structural adjustment there, help expand its market players, as well as continue to optimize the business environment.

Jing Junhai, secretary of the Jilin Provincial Committee of the CPC, extended a warm welcome to guests and expressed his gratitude to the NDRC and various multinational companies for their support of Jilin.

Jing also called for further cooperation in such sectors as new energy, science and technology.
