Jilin reports foreign trade growth in Jan-April

In the first four months of 2021, the total import and export value of trade in goods in Northeast China's Jilin province hit 52.86 billion yuan ($8.36 billion), an increase of 28.2 percent over the same period last year, according to Changchun customs.

Of this total, exports were valued at 11.44 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 19.8 percent. Imports came to 41.42 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 30.8 percent.

General trade imports and exports have increased significantly. Imports and exports by general trade were 47.94 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 28.7 percent, accounting for 90.7 percent of the total import and export value of Jilin province during the period.

The European Union (excluding the United Kingdom), Japan, and Mexico were the top three trading partners of Jilin province, with the imports and exports of these places accounting for 70.1 percent of the province’s total. Imports and exports to the EU were 29.91 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 41.8 percent.

In addition, imports and exports to countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative reached 16.66 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 45.3 percent.

Foreign-invested enterprises led the way in imports and exports, and both State-owned and private enterprises achieved growth in foreign trade.

In the first four months of the year, mechanical and electrical products and agricultural products drove a substantial increase in imports.

The export of mechanical and electrical products was 4.96 billion yuan, an increase of 50.8 percent, accounting for 43.3 percent of the total export value of Jilin province.
