Yitong, a county in Siping city, Northeast China’s Jilin province, will strive to be moderately prosperous by the end of 2020, according to Zeng Fantao, head of Yitong county and also a deputy to the 13th National People’s Congress (NPC).

Over the past year, following in-depth research, Zeng found that Yitong still faces problems in three key areas: poverty alleviation, the utilization of poultry manure, and the comprehensive utilization of straw in rural areas.

Take poverty alleviation as an example; Yitong is relatively underdeveloped but could not be described as a poor county, despite having 5,088 households living in poverty out of 9,721, argued Zeng.

In fact, living standards have dramatically improved, but there is still a lot of work to be done, particularly in terms of industries and infrastructure, such as the construction of highways and accessibility of safe drinking water, he added.

But we will strive to be moderately prosperous by the end of 2020, lifting thousands of households out of poverty, Zeng said.
