The 14th Changchun Film Festival opened in Changchun, the capital city of Jilin province, on Sept 1.

With the attendance of more than 400 government officials, filmmakers and audience, the opening ceremony began with Jing Junhai, governor of Jilin province delivering a speech.

Jing pointed out the significant role of the festival in the development of China's film industry, and dubbed Jilin as "the cradle of Chinese film". He also called for further efforts in providing impetus for the development of Chinese films.

Ninety-year-old actress Tian Hua was invited to the stage where tribute was paid to her for her life-long dedication to Chinese films.

Sheng Haixiong, director of the China Media Group, Wang Junzheng, secretary of Municipal Party Committee of Changchun, and Huo Jianqi, a renowned film director, also presented the ceremony and delivered speeches.

The closing ceremony will be held on Sept 8. During the eight-day event, activities such as music concerts, fans meetings, film exhibitions and forums will be organized. Winners of the Golden Deer Award will be awarded on the last day of the festival.
