Ziyang County in Shaanxi province's Ankang city brought its selenium-rich tea to the China (Changchun) Expo of Tea and Tea Sets held in Changchun, capital of Jilin province, from May 25 to 28.

It was the first time Ankang selenium-rich tea has tapped into the market of the northeastern province.

At a promotional event, Ankang deputy mayor Lu Qi introduced the city's history, culture, and advantages in resources and location.

"Selenium is scarce in China, especially in Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces," Lu said, adding that the promotional event helps provide a platform of cooperation and exchange for tea traders and improves people’s health in the northeastern provinces of Jilin, Heilongjiang and Liaoning.

He looked forward to more businesspeople developing the selenium resources and investing in selenium-intensive industries in Ankang.

Changchun residents have tea-drinking habits and there is a surging demand for high-quality tea as public desire for a healthy lifestyle rises, according to Jia Xiaodong, deputy mayor of Changchun.

He said the city would try its best to promote the Ziyang tea among its residents.

Besides tea products, the county also promoted six investment projects, including a research institute of selenium-rich industries and the Leigutai Forest Park. After the promotion, a group of cooperation agreements were signed.

Selenium, a micro-element with antioxidant properties, just like iron and zinc, is known to be beneficial for people's health.
