More than 10,000 students from Changchun Guanghua University, Jilin province, started to create a 25-meter long and 12-meter wide world map with over 200,000 waste bottle caps on an outdoor basketball court on April 19.
The map is made to welcome World Earth Day which is on April 22. It took students about half a month to collect all the bottle caps.
In the early morning of April 19, a large sheet was put on the playground with the shape of a world map and a slogan -- "Improving environmental awareness and building a green earth" -- painted on it.

Some students sorted the caps by color and some squatted on the tarp, brushing glue and pasting the caps.
Sun Zhongao, a staff member from the university's apartment management office, introduced that blue caps were used to make the ocean part and the forests were green. Countries were also pasted with different-colored caps.
He Luyi, a student at the university said the activity has raised students' environmental awareness and the bottle cap map can also promote environmental consciousness to more people outside the campus.
